It’s not really Fall in Opelika until the Lee County Fair returns. For 73 years the Lee County Fair has been entertaining folks throughout the county. We look forward to more than just the rides, the shows, the livestock and good ol’ fair food all make a trip to the fair fun for all ages. 40th Anniversary of Norma Rae, Filmed in Opelika

In 1978, Opelika became the co-star in the film Norma Rae. Filmed on location in Opelika and centered on the struggle to bring unions to southern mill workers, the film starred Sally Field in the lead role. Today, September 24th, is National Voter Registration Day but every day is voter registration day. Take a minute to go to Vote.org and confirm that you are registered to vote at your current address and if not, register! Opelika’s population is approximately 30,000 and there are 22,831 registered voters. In the last local election, only 1,397 people voted. That’s 6% of registered voters.
